Ghana’s version of events to mark the 69th birthday celebration of the late reggae legend, Bob Marley would come off at the Akuma Village also known as Rising Phoenix off the Accra High Street this Saturday night.
Saturday’s event, dubbed ‘Bob Marley Night’ would  be marked by music performances from some of Ghana’s best reggae musicians and DJs including Black Santino, Daddy Bosco, Fiifi Selah, Johnny Blaze, Ras Nene, amongst others.
According to organisers, all is set to stage a historic event which is expected to catch the attention of a large number of reggae music lovers from all walks of life.
It would be an evening filled with live band music to celebrate the life of Bob Marley and shed light on his achievements and life and also to promote and preserve the culture of reggae music in Ghana. It will also be a platform to reawaken the art of live band performances.
Bob Marley was born on February 6, 1945 as Nesta Robert Marley. He rose to become one of the world’s biggest reggae legends.
In December of 1999, his 1977 album ‘Exodus’ was named Album of the Century by Time Magazine and his song ‘One Love’ was designated Song of the Millennium by the BBC. Since its release in 1984, Marley’s ‘Legend’ compilation has annually sold over 250,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan, and it is only the 17th album to exceed sales of 10 million copies since SoundScan began its tabulations in 1991.
He died on May 11, 1981.
