Comparing the total personality-carriage of female gospel musicians to their counterpart female musicians in the secular world of music, it is writ large that, current female gospel musicians are becoming too “worldly.”
The music industry without definition from any school of thought has been divided into two sects of people. Those whose lyrics preach or mention God or Jesus Christ are described as Gospel artistes. On the other hand, those whose lyrics do not mention God or talk about Jesus Christ, are tagged as secular artistes/musicians or in some cases described as “worldly.”
However, if one will sincerely call a spade a spade, aside the lyrics in the songs of the supposed female Gospel musicians, nothing about most of them is Gospel or smacks of personalities whose focus is on religious missions.
Most practices or lifestyles by females in the secular world of music which the self-acclaiming female Gospel musicians describes as worldly, mundane or material sense gratification, are what the same female Gospel musicians practice or live by.
Most female secular artistes have their natural eye lashes removed for artificial hairs. Currently, most female Gospel musicians also have their natural eye lashes removed for artificial hairs. Most secular female artistes have their eye brows removed and replaced with pencil “overhead” drawings. Currently, most female Gospel musicians also have their natural eye brows removed for pencil “overhead” drawings. Most female secular artistes are known for skin bleaching. Currently, a number of female Gospel musicians have started bleaching their skin.
The lipsticks and lip-gloves seen on the lips of female secular artistes which is so thick that one can lick it off into a frying pan to fry eggs, is also seen on the lips of female Gospel artistes. Long wigs wore by secular female artistes, which the very female Gospel artistes describe as “Mame water” hair, are also worn by female Gospel artistes.
To look more piquant and to become the cynosures in order to satisfy their carnal sense gratification and ego, secular female artistes deliberately wear “high heels” to events so that all rampaging eyes can steal glimpse of them. Female Gospel artistes also don this same “high heels.” Costume-wise, female Gospel artistes are falling like the way Satan fell from heaven.
Secular artistes are perceived to have extra marital affairs. In less than ten years, more than 3 different popular married female Gospel artistes – Florence Obinim, Esther Smith, Christiana Love (now Obaapa Christie) have been alleged to be adulterous. To the extent that, they all had to put asunder, a holy union God has put together – marriage.
Azonto and Alkayida, two recent dance crazes, are performed largely by secular artistes or what Gospel preachers will call “worldly souls.” Shockingly, female Gospel artistes have now adopted Azonto and Alkayida into their stage performances and music videos. This same Azonto and Alkayida dances has been described as evil by some Gospel preachers.
No argument, whatsoever, should be given to justify the way female Gospel artistes are becoming carnal. If they perceive secular artistes as worldly souls, then they own it as a challenge to live by virtuous examples.
That is the example Jesus Christ taught. The argument that; ‘we worship God in our heart but not with our appearance’ is tripe and has no biblical bases. The message and the messenger must complement each other! You can’t preach one thing and practice otherwise. Christian virtues preach about meekness, gentleness, decency in dressing and general body carriage.
That is why Jesus Christ made the point that no man should light a lamp and hide it under his bed but must put it on a stand so that it can light for all to see. Jesus Christ was talking about how our words must manifest in our daily deeds.
The questions I ask these so called female Gospel musicians are; how do you describe the females you call “wiasefoɔ” in your songs? Can you look into the eyes of a secular female character and describe her as “worldly?” Or look into her eyes and preach against worldly dressing?
Saying I am a Gospel musician or mentioning Jesus Christ in your songs is not enough qualification as a preacher of Gospel. Live the talk. The admonishment to female Gospel musicians is simple; “change the world, don’t let the world change you.” Until then…..MOTWUM!!
