KECHE – SORKODE

Keche had their first biggest hit songs, ‘Sorkode’ and we all jammed to it. Truth is most people never got to see it’s video because it was so wack, dark and not worth watching. Most fans of the song didn’t even know it had a video. Well it was their first hit and we didn’t expect much but at least for a song that big, they should have put an effort to it.

R2BEES – KISS YOUR HAND
Right after their big breakthrough with ‘I Dey Mad’, they came out with yet their biggest song which was a hit both in Nigeria and Ghana because it featured Nigerian singer, Wande Coal. They made headlines and enjoyed massive rotation in Ghana and Nigeria. Everyone waited for the much anticipated video only for it to ‘suck ass’. To be honest we thought R2Bees could have done better. Good they’ve done their homework now and are giving us just what we wanted.

EAZZY – WENGEZE

Wengeze was Eazzy’s breakthrough song and the song became the number one song in no time since the song had the party feel and Eazzy’s label was the hottest at the moment. Her song became a nationwide hit. She became one of the hottest female musicians of the moment. But she got all of us mouth-opened with the wack video she released to the banger, We could say the video killed the song, the video was not-nice by quality or concept, it was just another not-so-good video from Ghana and we won’t blame Eazzy but her label mate Richie Mensah who was the master operator at their headquarters.

BRADEZ – SIMPLE
Bradez was well active before their song ‘Simple’ but ‘Simple’ was their biggest song in their career. They song was highly acclaimed and it was well received by fans all over the country. The video wasn’t that bad, but we feel it had so much visual effects which was not very much needed for a song like that. We think it needed a love-themed music video of a crisp quality. The video didn’t have any good or bad comments. It was just alright.

EDEM – OVER AGAIN
After Edem’s ‘Bougez’ the journey got a little bit tough after a couple of under-performing releases but Edem teamed up with Genius Selections and he had another big tune and it was nicely titled ‘Over Again’. The song became an instant hit and fans expected more being it as Nana Kofi Asihene was behind the cameras but they both disappointed us with a wack video. Fans went in on Twitter to lash Edem for his lack of creativity and deliberately killing  the song. Edem was forced to re-shoot another video. But we guess it was too late.

RAQUEL – SWEETIO
They say first impressions really matter and Raquel’s first single ‘Sweetio’ gave her a beautiful entry into the Ghana music scene. She was well accepted for her exceptional song which didn’t talk about sex or relationships but rather ‘sweeties’. It took a while for the video to come out, only to break our hearts and kill our love for the song. Raquel’s team didn’t try at all. Well I guess that is what you get for freebies right?

GASMILLA – ABODATOIE

I guess Gasmilla didn’t know ‘Abodatoei’ was going to be that big so he shot one of those ‘Ga-themed’ videos to it only to be surprised that his song became one of the biggest songs that year, I guess it was too late but I bet he didn’t see that coming. The video killed the song’s taste, at least for those who didn’t speak Ga and only had to watch video to understand. His consequent videos hasn’t been bad though

FUSE ODG – AZONTO
There is one thing as trying and one thing as knowing what you are doing. Fuse ODG was one of the million Londoners who thought they could breakthrough in the emerging Afrobeats music as a Ghanaian, so he decided to give it a shot and he recorded Azonto with Itz Tiffany and shot a dance video to it with people with covered faces, truth is, He didn’t know the song was going to be a worldwide hit hence why he shot that video, only to his surprise, the song became an instant hit and his worst video ever was being played on National TV and became the first Ghanaian music video with huge hits on YouTube. He decided to re-shoot the video which we feel was too late but he didn’t disappoint with his consequent videos.

ASEM – GIMME BLOW
Asem came through with a unique song style with different pattern and feel. The song was well received and kick-started Asem’s music career. It took years for the video to be released and trust me that video wasn’t worth the watch nor the wait. In my own opinion, it was the worst music video ever for such a big song and by the time the video was released, most people didn’t want to watch it anyway.

SARKODIE – YOU GO KILL ME
After releasing dope rap songs, and several hit songs at an early stage of his career, Sarkodie thrilled the whole Ghana and Africa with his ‘You Go Kill Me’ song. Till date that song has been Sarkodie’s biggest song and it still get played because of it’s unique and clear beat production. We all couldn’t wait to see it’s video and to our disappointment the song had the most disappointing music video ever. It really dented the song and killed the huge vibe it carried. Well Sarkodie has learnt from his mistakes, currently he makes the sickest music videos in town.

SHATTA WALE – DANCEHALL KING
Shatta Wale scored his first big hit since his Bandana days, the song became an instant hit and his biggest hit since the inception of his career. Just like all the songs above, we expected better only to see a green screen video. We really didn’t expect an usual video since Shatta Wale came through as the king of the streets. We expected some beach performances, ghetto dance moves being it as the Alkayida dance was emerging. But couldn’t live to see that action in Shatta Wale’s video. SAD!

DR. SLIM – OLE SEKE NI WOYE
Before 2012 could end, we had another big song from an unknown artist, Dr. Slim and Dobble. The song became a huge hit nationwide and even made it to the parliament as some parties used it for their campaign. As usual, we expected the video which didn’t impress us at all. The video killed the song’s vibe for everyone.

ATUPAN – THE THING
They say ‘opportunity knocks but only once’, Singer Atumpan who had a cocoa-season after releasing his smash hit Afrobeats song ‘The Thing’. The song made it’s way to the UK which got the musician signed to a UK record label. Immediately after the song’s release, Atumpan couldn’t wait but shoot an alright video to it. The video was never praised nor criticized. It was just alright and we chose to enjoy the song more and pretend we haven’t watched the video.

OKYEAME KWAME – WOSO
Okyeame Kwame shocked everyone with this song, but that was the order of the day and he needed to prove his versatility. It worked and the song became the song of the year which made Okyeame Kwame the artist of that year. As much as Okyeame Kwame is talented lyrically, he sucks at his videos. He has been stuck with the same video director since time and we feel they are both old school and are not ready to move into the new school where videos are concerned. Woso video wasn’t impressive at all, just like most of Okyeame Kwame’s videos.

KWAW KESE – LET ME DO MY THING
Kwaw Kese has been releasing big songs since the start of his career but he’s not the guy to talk about when it comes to music videos. He scored another big song 2 years ago titled ‘Let Me Do My Thing’. The song became an instant club banger and video was needed but Kwaw Kese repeated his usual. Shooting the most boring video ever to the song. He made a second attempt to shoot another video to the song but that was even worst. Sigh!

STONEBWOY – PULL UP

I guess Ghanaian musicians should refrain from free music videos especially for big songs. Experts in the industry will tell you, a music video could make a song big. Stonebwoy’s ‘Pull Up’ song is still a banger in clubs but nobody wants to watch the video, reason being, not worth the watch and I so concur.
