5 Unfunny Ghanaian Comedians

DAVID OSCAR

David Oscar is the most criticized comedian in Ghana. He has trended multiple times on Twitter for not being funny and on several occasions, he will defend or attack his critics. David Oscar won Stars Of The Future reality show (Comedy segment) whilst in university. According to rumors, he was picked by KSM to train and manager him but David Oscar refused. He has been ridiculed for not being funny countless times. He and DKB have hosted several failed comedy shows on TV like Madam Kplemklem, Corporate comedy series and more. These shows never had any huge patronage but rather mocked by viewers. One thing David Oscar is probably good at is TV commercials, as most of the commercials he has been in are usually applauded.

KWAKU MANU

Even though he’s not a stand-up comedian, his job is to entertain in the Kumasi movie circle. He took the baton from Agya Koo as the next funniest man in the Kumawood scene but Kwaku Manu’s fame was short-lived as it didn’t take long for people to realize his stunts are full of insult and are all cliched. Kwaku Manu was soon overtaken by Liwin who has been reigning since.

DKB

The only time I saw DKB in action, I thought he was good so I tried to sell him to others but none of the people I told, saw anything funny in DKB. He tries but it’s obviously not enough, his jokes are mostly Ghanaian-fied versions of Nigerian jokes. He tries to use tactics already used by popular Nigerian comedians but don’t deliver the same way they do. DKB has also been an object of constant criticisms which he usually fights back. He has tried music and a couple of arts, all to no avail. His career declined after the unfortunate happened when he took part in the Big Brother Africa reality show.

A-PLUS

Started with music and when we were all tired of his political songs and complaints, he decided to give comedy a shot. He had a TV show on eTV called “The A Plus Show” which was supposed to be funny but didn’t last long on TV because it failed to entertain anyone. He is currently working on short TV sitcoms titled “Accra Stay By Plan” and “Adventures of A-Plus”. We hope he makes someone laugh. In my opinion A Plus’ jokes are too dry and not funny as he think it is.

FUNNY FACE

He is the top comedian in Ghana now when it comes comedy, Funny Face don’t do much. He either overdo it or fail to make me and most people laugh (we know he would call that hating), but far from that. Funny Face is not good at stand-up. He’s either shouting or forcing his way to make people laugh. He don’t make most of his money from comedy gigs but hosting events, TV shows and TV commercials. Only people who find Funny Face funny is probably kids. He has good connects who make sure he inks deals, at least he’s getting it.

 

The few comedians we feel are naturally good at making people laugh are Liwin, Master Richard (Mikki Osei Berko), Sammy B, KSM, Koo Fori, Agya Koo, George Quaye and a few of them. Maybe Ghanaian comedians should write their jokes or get help from professionals who can write good and funny scripts for them. It will save the comedy sector.
