Creativity and versatility is what is moving the world now, the average person won’t make it this century as it takes super special skills to move forward. Ghana music has grown far but still lagging because most of our musicians are not versatile. Most of our musicians fail to use their creative power, their songs always sound the same since the inception of their career.
Most times this is because Ghanaian musicians stick to one producer during the early times of their career which makes their songs sound one way. Join me let us go and look at some Ghanaian musicians whose songs or raps always sound the same regardless of the beat.

RICHIE MENSAH

Richie Mensah came through with his exceptional beat-making skills, but it didn’t take us long to realize Richie Mensah’s beats were light and lacked lots of substance, in actual facts his beats were noisy and didn’t last in the everyday-changing Ghanaian industry. He failed to pick up and learn new ways to entertain Ghanaians. His songs that he produced for many musicians except for one or two had the same progression, same kick style, most of his beats sounded alike, even till now, he still make those kind of beats.

KAAKIE

Kaakie is the best female dancehall artist simply because she has no competition and her songs are good. I really won’t call her songs dancehall, maybe the words are but the beats are often fused with Afrobeats to spice it up. Since the inception of Kaakie’s music career, she’s ridden on beats only produced by Jam Master Jay which usually sounds alike or the same. Kaakie’s songs are good but because it’s always the same producer, it makes it hard to see her real potential and versatility.

STAY JAY

Stay Jay came into the industry with his Shashee Wowo anthem, the song became a nationwide hit with it’s beautiful remix but little did we know that all his consequent songs are going to sound the same. Stay Jay is always rapping or talking about girls and their bad behavior. Well don’t we all know that? From From Shashee Wowo to Prepaid Girls, all his songs has the same theme and topic.

OPANKA

Opanka wowed us all with his funny lines in his freestyles which was full of empty nothings. After being successful in the freestyle field, he tried to branch into mainstream songs. The truth is, his songs didn’t make the cut because it was all the same and full of words he’s used in his previous freestyles.

DR. CRYME

Dr. Cryme came through with ‘Kill Me Shy’ which became an instant hit, since then the struggle to release another big song has been futile. There’s only one reason, Dr. Cryme’s songs all sound the same, same melody and style of singing, I liked one of his songs which he rapped in it. The others that he sang all sound like ‘Kill Me Shy’. He sings like he’s in a quartet or better still like a church choir leader.

TINNY

Tinny has had his hay days, he rode on Hammer beats for a long time and made hits with it. Most musicians Tinny started his career with are still keeping up with time but Tinny seems to be struggling and finding it hard to keep up with time. He is still on his Ga rap swag which many have given a sophisticated version of. Tinny should try something new, like work with new producers, new artistes, and make new songs that fit our time.

NICHOLAS OMANE ACHEAMPONG

His style of gospel is unique and one in a million, his style is easily spotted. His songs always have the same type of beat, the same style and also big words from the Bible (according to him) that nobody understands except him. For instance Tabitha Kum and Zaphanat Paneah.

SARKODIE

I know most people will disagree with me but Sarkodie is a rapper but these days I only listen to his songs for the beat and chorus only. His new songs are good but his rap skills has remained dormant for the past years, it’s either he’s bragging about his achievements or talking about him being the best rapper, don’t we know that already by now? It doesn’t make the cut for me. Maybe he could choose different themes to rap about.
