Ghanaian musicians have been advised to explore digital avenues to increase the revenue from their materials.
The advise was borne out of discussions aimed at making the music industry more profitable, a part of the Citi Heritage Month discussions on the music industry.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, musician and CEO of One Mic Entertainment – Okyeame Kwame – urged his colleague musicians to explore all digital avenues available to increase their revenue. According to Okyeame Kwame, digital avenues including Caller Ring Back Tunes are one of the many ways musicians can make money.
To him “that is a sure way most musicians can become millionaires.”
The CEO of Ohene Media, Abraham Ohene Gyan, in his submission urged musicians to manage their youtube channels to rake in some needed revenue.
According to Ohene Gyan, the assertion that online media is promoting piracy is wrong, stressing that the digital domain rather has the mechanisms to tighten the rope of Piracy.
“Every device that accesses the internet has a MAC address and every material can be used to identify MAC addresses in order for it to work on specific devices. It’s like a key and a lock. These things can be built in but the fact is we haven’t actually made the investment. It’s possible that you can download some music online but you can’t pass it on to your friend’s phone because it would have a different MAC address.”
The revered music marketer has therefore called for special attention to digital music sales to better the gains of the Ghanaian musician and the industry at large.
Another resource person on the show, Samuel Darko – a digital music marketing expert, admonished artistes to work on their online presence to reach out to a wider global audience to boost sales.
The Citi FM Heritage Month is still ongoing. The Heritage Month seeks to celebrate Ghana’s unique cultural Heritage. Tune in to the Citi Breakfast Show every weekday at 9am and join in the discussions.
The Citi FM Heritage Month is proudly sponsored by SIC Insurance – SIC, our promises are sacred.
